There are certain moments during a wedding day that happen every single time.
The moment when everyone is lined up for the ceremony.
The music is about to start.
The couple takes a deep breath because after months (or years!) of planning, it’s finally here.
And then someone says it…
“I’m going to cry.”
Or maybe it’s:
“Does anyone have a tissue?”
As a wedding planner, this is one of those little moments I’m always prepared for. I keep tissues with me because I know exactly who is most likely going to need them — the people who have loved and supported you the longest.
Why We Always Put Tissues in the Mother’s and Grandmother’s Chairs

Before guests arrive, I place tissues directly in the chairs for the mothers and grandmothers.
I also put their names on their chairs so there is no question about where they’re sitting. (Because once guests start arriving, we want everyone exactly where they need to be!)
The reason I do this is simple: they aren’t walking through the ceremony entrance the same way your guests are.
Your guests may stop at the welcome table, grab a program, find their seat, and notice a basket of tissues.
Your parents and grandparents are usually being escorted in, visiting with family, or soaking in the moment.
They are not thinking, “I should grab a tissue before this starts.”
They’re thinking about watching you get married.
And without fail, right before the ceremony begins, when the emotions start to hit, I get to reassure them:
“I already put tissues in your chair.”
Do You Need Tissues for Every Guest?

Here’s where I’m going to help you save a little money.
You do not have to buy tissues for every person attending your wedding.
Are they a cute detail? Absolutely.
But if you’re working with a wedding budget (and let’s be honest, most couples are), this is one area where you can be intentional.
Most of the happy tears come from your VIP guests — your parents, grandparents, and those closest to you.
If having tissues available for everyone fits into your budget and you love the look of it, go for it!
But if you’re deciding where your money makes the biggest impact, I would start with the people who are most likely to need them.

If you want to add tissues to your ceremony, here are a few options:

For every ceremony guest:

For a keepsake gift for your parents:

A small detail like tissues may not seem important when you’re looking at a wedding checklist filled with hundreds of decisions.
But on the wedding day, it’s often those little thoughtful touches that make people feel cared for.
And trust me — your mom will appreciate not having to search for a tissue when she’s trying to watch you walk down the aisle.
